The SHIELDskin range of gloves by Shield Scientific have been conveniently classified in a traffic light system according to the type of risk they provide protection against. The gloves are made from a proprietary multi-polymer formulation based on a blend of nitrile with polychloroprene and the twinSHIELD technology offers a double layer of protection with the coloured outer layer and white inner lining.

Under the PPE 89/686/EEC directive, they are classified as PPE Category III which is the minimum requirement for PPE for when their is exposure to chemicals or micro-organisms. This classification does not mean that they will protect against all chemicals or micro-organisms, you will need to check they are approved under the relevant standards and have chemical resistance.

ecoSHIELD ECO Nitrile Powder-free Gloves

Suitable for general laboratory use.

Green ecoSHIELD gloves are a range of powder-free nitrile gloves providing protection against general laboratory risks. They offer barrier resistance to penetration from micro-biological & chemical hazards. These gloves offer great economy due to their large pack size of 150 gloves/box. The packaging is also eco-friendly and easily recycled; manufactured from recycled cardboard with reduced printing (the de-printing stage of the recycling process causes the most pollution).


  • Extra length from 250 to 260 mm (meets EN 420:2003 + A1:2009)
  • Biosafety: AQL 0.65 (EN 374-2:2014 Level 3).
  • Virus resistant (ISO 16604:2004 procedure B and ASTM F1671-97b).

SHIELDskin Orange Nitrile 260/300 Powder-free Gloves

Designed for laboratory use where biological hazards are present.

SHIELDskin Orange gloves offer protection against biological risks. They are available in two lengths – 260mm and 300mm. The 260mm standard length is 20mm longer than many standard lab gloves, providing extra splash protection.

Also available as sterile RNase and DNase free.

SHIELDskin CHEM Neo Nitrile 300 Powder-Free Gloves

Designed for laboratory use to protect

SHIELDskin CHEM offers protection against the widest range of chemical risks in this entire range, without compromising on dexterity and comfort.
They resist permeation for at least 30 minutes in 4 out of the 12 chemicals listed in EN 374-1:2003 (tested according to EN 16523-1:2015).


  • Length/ thickness: 300 mm / 0.25 mm (EN 420:2003 + A1:2009)
  • Biosafety: AQL 0.65 (EN 374-2:2014 Level 3)
  • Virus resistant: (ISO 16604:2004 Procedure B & ASTM F1671-97b )

Selecting the right glove:

To select the correct glove, one must consider the appropriate level of CE and regulatory certification against the particular hazards the wearer will be exposed to (such as chemical, mechanical, biological). However there are many other factors you should want to consider when selecting an appropriate glove:

  • Decreased risk of skin allergy – Synthetic gloves such as this nitrile/polychloroprene blend have a lower risk of skin allergies compared with latex gloves for example.
  • Prevention of skin irritation – Gloves are free from chemical accelerators and other known irritants.
  • Dexterity and grip – As gloves become more chemically resistant, they tend to get thicker, which may sacrifice manual dexterity. That is why it is important to carefully select gloves on the resistance required.
  • Length and size – The SHIELDskin range now have a minimum length of 260mm and a number of size options – XS – XL (XXL is available in the SHIELDskin CHEM range).

If the wearer has a comfortable glove option, they will be more likely to wear it.
